International Arbitration and Insurance Law Expert Mitchell Lathrop Joins Mintz Levin

San Diego, CA – Continuing its successful growth in California, Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. announced that Mitchell Lathrop has joined the firm’s San Diego office as a Member. The move expands Mintz Levin’s national insurance and reinsurance practice, and adds depth of experience in international arbitration. Mr. Lathrop will also practice out of the firm’s New York office.
Before joining Mintz Levin, Mr. Lathrop was a partner with Duane Morris, LLP and prior to that, a partner in San Diego-based Luce Forward.

Since its opening in June 2006, the San Diego office of Mintz Levin has grown from its 5 founding members to 34 attorneys. The continued growth of the firm's San Diego presence reflects the successful entry into California by the 500 lawyer international law firm.
Mr. Lathrop's insurance practice involves representing some of the largest insurance and reinsurance companies in the country, with a special focus on environmental disputes. He has appeared as counsel in over forty cases with reported decisions, and has litigated matters in over thirty states. He frequently serves as an expert witness on insurance and reinsurance matters in both state and federal courts, and is a widely-respected speaker and author, having written over 50 articles and books.
In addition to his litigation expertise, Mr. Lathrop is an internationally respected arbitrator. He has served as sole arbitrator or party arbitrator in over 50 arbitrations. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (U.K.) and member of the London Court of International Arbitration. He is a diplomate in international arbitration law of the College of Law of England and Wales and a Distinguished Neutral (Insurance) for the International Institute for the Prevention and Resolution of Disputes (CPR). Mr. Lathrop also serves as an arbitrator for the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society, U.S. (ARIAS-US); the Singapore International Arbitration Centre; the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry; the Reinsurance Association of America; the National Arbitration Forum; and the International Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Lathrop is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and the University of Southern California School of Law. He also received a Diploma of International Arbitration Law from the College of Law of England and Wales. Mr. Lathrop is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a certified civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
He is admitted to practice in California, New York and the District of Columbia.
