Mintz Levin Named Top-Ten Family Friendly Law Firm by Yale Law Women

4/28/2011

Boston, MA – Yale Law Women has named Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. one of the nation’s Top-Ten Family Friendly Law Firms in 2011.  The annual list recognizes the firm as a leader in developing and practicing family friendly policies, including its leave and part-time policies, in-home and on-site emergency child care, and billable hours and compensation practices.  This is the fourth year that Yale Law Women has selected Mintz Levin for this prestigious honor.

“We are again delighted to be recognized with this honor,” said Jennifer B. Rubin, Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee and a member in the Employment, Labor and Benefits Section. “Mintz Levin takes the responsibility of providing a family-friendly workplace very seriously, and we’re gratified that those efforts not only result in being able to recruit and retain the best talent, but are acknowledged by such highly regarded organizations as Yale Law Women.”

Mintz Levin was among the first law firms nationwide to introduce part-time and other flexible work arrangements designed to help all lawyers manage work and family responsibilities, and other interests. The firm approved the first flexible work arrangement for a woman in 1984.

The firm provides numerous benefits to assist attorneys in blending family and work responsibilities, including backup childcare and generous parenting leaves for birth mothers, fathers and non-birth mothers.  Attorneys may also take four weeks of paid vacation time after their paid leave and have the option to use an extended unpaid parenting leave of up to one year, during which they may continue to participate in the firm’s health insurance plan.  The firm extends its benefits to spousal equivalents or domestic partners.

In developing its sixth list of the Top Ten Family Friendly Law Firms, Yale Law Women analyzed firms from the 2010 Vault Top 100 Law Firms.  These firms were asked to complete a survey detailing the percentage of female attorneys in various categories, access to and use of parental leave, emergency and on-site child care, part-time and flex-time work policies, usage of part-time and flex-time policies, billable hours and compensation practices, and alternative career programs. Firm responses were weighted based on a 2011 survey of Yale Law School alumni who were asked about the importance of each category of family friendly policies and practices.
