Legal Professional Development

Our in-house professional development curriculum assists our attorneys and other legal professionals in developing their substantive legal knowledge, practical legal skills, and professionalism at every step of their careers. Mintz Levin's commitment to professional development is evident through its establishment of an annual training target for each legal professional. Attorneys and paralegals can easily achieve their targets via our numerous offerings. Over 125 programs per year are presented by a variety of internal and external experts. These offerings span many areas, including an array of substantive legal topics, business development, diversity, legal writing and drafting, and negotiation skills.

Our extensive curriculum is designed to both support our attorneys in their efforts to provide outstanding client service as well as supplement learning occurring every day in client and pro bono work opportunities.

Mintz Levin Professional Development (MLPD) programs targeted at junior associates include First Year Base Camps, First Year Writing Programs, and The Business of Law series to name a few. Both Litigation Base Camp and Transactional Base Camp bring all First Year Associates together for several days in our Boston office. The curricula of each camp includes substantive legal topics, expectations discussions with Section Management, and professional enhancement offerings. Two distinct writing programs are offered to our First Year Associates -- a seven-session litigation writing program and a six-session transactional writing series. These series utilize materials written by experts in legal writing and drafting such as Bryan Garner and Ross Guberman. The sessions are taught by our own experts, many of whom are writing instructors at local law schools. Participants in each program are assigned a writing mentor for the duration of their first year at Mintz Levin.

Mid-level and senior associates as well as partners benefit from an array of programming focusing on hot topic updates, business development, and on-your-feet practice. Examples of programs include: Annual Public Company Reporting Series, Deposition Skills, Motion Training, Creating Your Business Plan, and Roundtable Discussions that address a wide variety of current legal topics. Our curriculum for senior attorneys also includes ethics topics as well as supervisory and mentoring training.

MLPD is an Accredited Provider of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours in New York and California. Qualifying MLPD programs are designed to deliver CLE credit to audience members seeking it.

Mintz Levin offers its legal professionals a dynamic, interesting environment. Whether via formal training sessions or through exposure to top-notch colleagues and challenging assignments, we are certain you will continually hone your skills and grow professionally while at Mintz Levin.
