Information Technology

The expertise of Mintz Levin's attorneys in the information technology industry includes countless small and mid-sized licensing transactions and ranges up to the largest multi-national technology transactions involving the most advanced computers, software, networks and telecommunications equipment. In addition to transactions, we handle intellectual property, employment, immigration, litigation, tax and related matters for these clients. Our information technology clients also include underwriters, venture capital firms and other investors in the industry.

We represent United States-based clients, as well as international companies doing business in the U.S. We have a particular focus on the representation of burgeoning Irish and Israeli companies, though our experience ranges across Europe and in Asia as well.

Transactions

Our attorneys are expert in drafting and negotiating all forms of agreements relating to computer hardware and software transactions, including software development and licensing; computer systems support and maintenance; system integration; manufacturing; VAR, OEM and other reseller and distribution channels; and software and technology escrow agreements.

Outsourcing transactions are among the areas in which the firm offers special expertise.

Data, Information and Privacy

Computers, sophisticated software programs and the Internet have combined to make the compilation, distribution and analysis of data big business. Data across the entire spectrum, from stock quotes and corporate announcements to website visitor preferences, bioinformatics and personally identifiable information, has become the subject matter of increasingly sophisticated transactions. Mintz Levin attorneys have been there from the beginning advising clients in the development of these transactions, and in the creation of sophisticated programs designed to protect the confidentiality and security of this information.

Intellectual Property

Our attorneys provide opinions, procurement and protection services in the areas of patents, trademarks, copyrights, as well as licensing, to our clients in information technology. We regularly handle hardware, software and content matters.

Human Resources

We have significant experience advising our information technology clients with respect to matters involving their employees in such areas as immigration, protection of proprietary information, compensation (including equity compensation), and benefits.

Public Relations

Our consulting affiliate ML Strategies, LLC, has a focus on technology public relations and provides general public relations services to a number of high tech companies.
